Volunteer
We appreciate our volunteers!
Volunteers are an integral component of the literacy field in Oregon, running programs and providing tutoring for thousands of individuals each year. Volunteers choose to donate a range of services, and these web pages are designed to tell you a little bit more about those opportunities, and provide you with a chance to get involved.
Volunteer Tutoring:
By far the most common way for volunteers to get involved in literacy programs is as tutors. If you'd like to learn more about the process of becoming a tutor, click here for more information.
For Oregon Literacy, Inc:
People who volunteer for literacy are involved in everything from database design to graphic design, assessment to organizing. In many parts of the state, groups of volunteers coordinate and manage the programs themselves. Listed here are the current volunteering opportunities.
Boards of Directors:
Community based literacy programs are typically governed by a Board of Directors. This page contains a little more information on the responsibilities of joining the Oregon Literacy Board of Directors (although you can also email us if you're interested in joining a Board in a community outside of Portland).
Internships:
Oregon Literacy is committed to providing quality learning opportunities that provide service to Oregon's literacy field while allowing college students to gain skills in their chosen career or area of study. Work Study Positions:
Our Federal Work Study Students are a pivotal part of our organization, assisting us with our support of adult literacy in endless ways. A key goal of our Work Study program is to work with each individual student to find a project that makes best use of their current skills, while providing the opportunity to gain experience in the nonprofit sector and support adult literacy.
