Jazz Giants Jam for Literacy
April 10, 2004 The Original Cats return to the Blue Monk for a night to benefit Oregon Literacy, Inc.
Who: The Original Cats, Oregon Literacy and you!
What: A benefit night full of jazz
When: April 10, 2004. 8:00 PM-Midnight
Where: The Blue Monk: 3341 SE Belmont Portland, Oregon
Why: To raise awareness about literacy, and raise funds to help Oregon Literacy's ongoing mission to advance literacy in Oregon through access, advocacy, and alliances.
The Original Cats come to the Blue Monk on Saturday April 10th, to perform a benefit concert for Oregon Literacy, Inc. They are not called "Original" for nothing. These guys have been bringing home the jazz jive since long before many of us remember, and garner in total more than 200 years of jazz experience. Between them, "Sweet Baby" James Benton, Bobby Bradford, Cleve Williams, Bob Hernandez and Kurt Deutscher, have played with legendary acts such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Dinah Washington, and Louis Prima, to name a few. You can't get more original than that. Individually, these guys make magic, but when they are together, it's pure musical utopia.
Funds raised will go towards maintaining vital literacy services such as the statewide literacy line (800-322-8715) which connects Oregon adults with literacy instruction.
