When potential students arrive at the Literacy Council for Josephine County, we determine their individual goals and carefully match them with a compatible tutor. Students always work toward their own goals. For example, many get tutoring in order to pass the driver's examination, get their GED, attain citizenship, improve job skills, or meet requirements to enroll at Rogue Community College. Instruction and basic materials are free, and the Literacy Council will suggest appropriate manuals, texts, workbooks and computer-based exercises from the wide range of teaching materials in our library. The student and tutor meet at times and places convenient to them both. Tutors are trained for free by our coordinators both individually and in classes, and tutors always get ongoing support and encouragement. All records and evaluations are kept confidential.
