| RAO Directions
- Submit the entry fee, which is a requested donation of at
least $10.
- Set a reading and fundraising goal which will be obtained
via pledges. This is optional and above and beyond the suggested
entry fee. For example, if you want to raise $100 for Oregon
Literacy, you might ask your sponsors to pledge $0.20 a page.
You would then need to read 500 pages throughout the month of
March. You might set a goal of getting five people to sponsor
you, so that each person will pledge just $20 a piece. Oregon
Literacy suggests but does not require that a “page”
be defined as a standard book size of full text at the reader’s
appropriate reading level. You should negotiate with your sponsors
the definition of your page, if needed.
- Ask neighbors, friends, family, teachers, and co-workers to
sponsor you. Record their pledge information on your pledge
sheet. If a company would like to get involved please have them
contact us directly. If a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
would like to get involved they will be able to keep half the
funds they raise (Oregon Literacy will organize the entire event
for them). Contact Elizabeth Raymond at elizabeth@oregonliteracy.org or
503-244-3898.
- Once you secure your pledges, record your reading by using
the log provided in your “reader packet”. (You can
even use the log as a bookmark!)
- Read all you can during the month of March! Encourage others
to read!
- At the end of March contact the people on your pledge sheet
and tell them how much you read and how much they owe you. Your
sponsors should make checks payable to Oregon Literacy, and
send them to you or to our office directly. If your sponsors
choose to send in their checks directly to us, make sure they
indicate who you are. If your sponsor would like their contribution
to be tax deductible, let Oregon Literacy know so we can provide
them with the appropriate documentation.
- Please send in your pledges by April 13th, 2008.
- Once you send in your pledges you will be eligible for our
prize drawing, which will occur April 30, 2008. You need not
be present to win.
- Contact Elizabeth Raymond at elizabeth@oregonliteracy.org or 503-244-3898
with any questions.
