| Who
We Are
We
are part of the Adult Education and Family Literacy
Department (AEFL) at Clatsop Community College.
AEFL
runs the GED and English as a Second Language (ESL)
classes in Astoria, Seaside and Clatskanie. The AEFL
department runs SEA Services where students can find
extra help in all subject areas.
What
We Do
One
component of our department is the Volunteer Literacy
Tutor program. We’re here to help people who
can’t enroll in school because of long work
hours, have no transportation or lack childcare. |
Volunteers
We
find volunteers who meet with and instruct adults
who need basic training in English, reading, writing
and math. We train volunteer tutors how to instruct
an ESL student. Sometimes tutors work with native
English speakers who have asked us for help to upgrade
their reading and math skills.
The
Outreach Literacy Program develops and compiles
curriculum for adult education classes. We also direct
people to services at the college and in the community
and provide study materials to students. We advocate
for education issues and train volunteers to participate
in literacy efforts in our community. |
