supports and works with students, volunteer tutors and literacy programs to advance literacy throughout Oregon and southwest Washington. Oregon Literacy is the only statewide nonprofit connecting learners of all ages with the resources they need and recently celebrated 40 years of service in 2006.
Our mission is to strengthen literacy programs, support volunteer tutors and empower learners to exercise their right to literacy.
Toll-free hotline connects those who need help with reading, writing, speaking English, citizenship, and more with local programs and volunteers who can help.
Supports volunteer tutors and local literacy programs by providing an online orientation, searchable resource database, bookstore, lending library, free teaching materials, monthly newsletter and toll free support line.
Through a partnership with the League of Women Voters of Oregon and Oregon Advocacy Center, the guide helps disenfranchised voters such as those with limited literacy skills and cognitive disabilities, access high quality, unbiased, nonpartisan voting information.
We help build and maintain strong local literacy programs through publications, training and ongoing support.
In partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation Latino Partnership Project, the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Initiative has helped to build six new ESOL programs in high need areas in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties and will expand to southern, central, and eastern Oregon over the next three years.
