Companies of Compassion was a program dedicated to raising money for support of Laubach foreign programs, specifically a literacy program in Colombia, South America. During the late 1960s illiteracy was more than 50% in Colombia. This committee was active in during the 1960s and 1970s. In the photo from left to right are Phyllis Newland and Dr. Freeda Hartzfeld Jones. Dr. Jones exhorted the program and was committed, until her death, to the international work of Laubach.

The Companies of Compassion later became a part of Oregon Literacy, Inc. and concentrated on international efforts. Companies of Compassion was also labeled The Oregon Committee and the International Programs Committee. Local literacy efforts were addressed by another Oregon Literacy committee, the Teaching Projects Committee.
